No! Not the glowing eyes!
Tuesday, April 11, 2006When you're a genre writer, you soon learn you have no control over what they put on the cover.
I've been lucky. Most of my books have nifty covers (almost all of which may be seen on my web site, btw.) But the cover art is picked by art directors, publishers, editors, just about anybody but the author.
And now along comes the cover for my Battlestar Galactica novel, THE CYLON'S SECRET. You can see it over at Amazon. Eventually, we'll add it to my site as well. It's a nifty cover, really, a picture of Cylon Model Six -- with glowing eyes. That cover will sell a lot of books.
It's a pity the cover has very little to do with the actual book. But please don't blame me.
I only write the things.

OK, I grant the eyes are a little glowy, but what a kick ass hair cut! I am taking that book straight to my hairdresser as soon as it comes out.

Hey, you never know. Get your hair cut like that, and maybe your eyes will glow, too!

Hi Craig, can't wait to read your book. When I looked at the cover though I kind of thought that the human cylon models hadn't been invented that long before the start of the BSG series. Is this just something I made up in my head or does your story actualy involve human cylons?

Hey, Chrismas!
Well, this is why, alas, the book cover is not entirely representative of the book's contents. The book takes place before the arrival of the "current" --in show terms -- Cylon models, although the events of the book JUST MIGHT give some indication of how those new models came to be. Plus, I'm sure TOR thought they'd better put a current Cylon on the cover to avoid confusion.
